ADVANTAGES OF ALUMINIUM AND THE SEA

New marine application for aluminium have been identified and regularly developed throughout the world for the 50 years.

Like the aerospace industry aluminium alloys have found a special place in the marine industry. LIGHTNESS Aluminium is a lightweight metal compared with steel or fiberglass; aluminium can save up to 30 % - 50 % of weight in a hull structure.

ADVANTAGES

a. Less H/P required.

b. Lower fuel consumption.

c. More load carrying capacity.

d. Manufacturing - easier handling which saves times and machinery.

e. Last saving in one off craft.

f. Low maintenance required.

CORROSION RESISTANCE

• Corrosion resistance is an all important criteria in a environment that is as hostile to materials as the sea.

• In many cases aluminium can be left unprotected by painting etc.

• Lower maintenance costs.

• It is also difficult not to say impossible to predict the ultimate life of a craft constructed from aluminium.

• In fact equipment life is determined not by the corrosion resistance of "Marine Grade" aluminium but rather by the equipment becoming obsolete.

• The application of aluminium craft has been enormous, because of the low weight to power ratio, high impact strength and low maintenance.
